PARC-Plymouth Arts & Recreation Complex is a privately owned and operated 501(c)(3) non-profit whose Mission is: “To enrich lives through quality arts, education and recreation programs for all ages.” Occupying a 100+ year old former school since 2015, PARC has grown to become home to more than 50 organizations, who lease the former classrooms and/or use the many available facilities (such as the gymnasium, pool, theater, football/soccer field, tennis and pickleball courts). There truly is something for toddlers, seniors, and everyone in between!
At 160,000 square feet on 16 acres, PARC occupies the largest historic building (c. 1917) remaining in Plymouth. Originally Plymouth High School, then Central Middle School, the building and property were purchased from the Plymouth Canton Community School District by local preservationists and philanthropists, Patty and Mark Malcolm, who charitably donated it to be adaptively repurposed as PARC. In disrepair when purchased, PARC has invested millions to restore, modernize, and improve (e.g., new windows, new bathrooms, new HVAC, new roof sections, restored theater, new lighting, new parking lot with 25+ rain gardens, etc.). Thanks to the restored condition and the retention of original school character and feel, the building and grounds are being nominated for the National Register of Historic Places.
The building and property are owned by PARC and managed by a small, dedicated Staff and volunteer Board of Directors. PARC receives no financial assistance from taxpayers; we rely on tenant rent, user fees, and donations to pay for overhead expenses, maintenance, and improvements.
